Mabogini is a small ward located in Moshi municipality in
Kilimanjaro Region, which is 2km south of the Moshi municipal. The community has a population of 9,254 with 450 Households. The average income
is below USD $ 80 per month, per family. In order to survive, nearly every
member of the family needs to work. The economy of Mabogini is very weak, with
the majority of residents being unemployed or underemployed as casual,
unskilled, labourers. Many residents work in the nearby sugar plantation(TPC)
or Rice plantation(KITIVO), only to find little or low paying jobs. To get by,
some people engage in small business ventures, such as selling fruit and
vegetables or selling cooked food, but this usually brings in less than $1 per
day. Others brew and sell beer illegally, while some girls work in saloons or
occasionally accept money in exchange for sex.
Mabogini ward suffers
from poor child rights, drug and alcohol abuses, poor sanitary conditions,
illiteracy, and girls and have been involved in drug and alcohol use, which
contributes to higher rates of unwanted, teenage pregnancies and the spread of
HIV/AIDS. The HIV/AIDS infection rate for the community is about 2.1%. In addition, girls are
forced into marriage shortly after their initiation ceremony. The number of
children who drop out of school is very high, due to inability to pay for
school fees, uniforms, early marriages and other various cultural practices.
Lack of education facilities remained a major challenge to children as a result
of the above; very few children make it to higher grades, thereby contributing
the vicious circle of poverty.
The photos below shows some areas which we will need support from you partners and volunteers all over the world to help us to provide good facilities for their education and health, They have poor facilities for toilets, class rooms and kitchen as seen below;-
Toilet with No quality (this may spread diseases like cholera to the pupils) Overflow pupils in the classroom.
(they don't have enough desks and other facilities for their learning )
